Surrounded by mountains and open skies the lakes here feel super calm, quiet and strong at the same time. These lakes are not filled with noise. They sit high up in the mountains reflecting the sky changing colors with the light and creating moments that stay with you for a time after you leave Ladakh. The lakes are really peaceful.
I still remember the time I visited Pangong Lake in Ladakh. It felt like I was dreaming. The lake is huge. Stretches for a long distance between mountains. Its water changes color throughout the day. It can be deep blue, green or even grey sometimes.
You might be surprised to know that even though the water is salty Pangong Lake freezes completely during winter. It turns into a sheet of ice. When I stood beside Pangong Lake I did not feel like I was just visiting a place. I felt connected, to something bigger like I was a part of Pangong Lake and Pangong Lake was a part of me.

Far from the routes lies Tso Moriri, a lake that feels untouched and peaceful. It's one of the lakes in India located above 4,500 meters.The land, around it is wide open.
